SGS-LTER Research in Report on Global Change Impacts in the US

A report of Global Climate Change Impacts in the United States report was just released by the President’s Scientific Advisor. The heading on page 76 reads, “Forage quality in pastures and rangelands generally declines with increasing carbon dioxide concentration….”, and then if you read on to page 77, the section discusses changes in plant vegetation and N concentration that can cause forage quality to decline. They give the example, “On the shortgrass prairie, for example, a carbon dioxide enrichment experiment……”. Much of this section comes from the SGS-LTER and ARS, USDA Open Top Chamber experiment and analysis conducted by Dan Milchunas, Jack Morgan, and others.

You can download the report on the publications section of the US Global Change Research Program Website
